Where it all began - Ben Heath
Our journey to becoming a leading Berkshire interior design company started back in 1999.
Then known as ‘Tables and Chairs’ sourcing exceptional quality dining sets and furniture from Britain and Europe, the company was started by Ben Heath and his father John.
In 2002, the next significant chapter saw the company expand into Sofas sourced from the upholstery capital of Britain, Long Eaton.
It wasn’t until 2003, when John decided to retire that Ben took on the business to develop it further and in 2007 re-branded it as ‘Ben Heath’, now known as a Newbury Interior Design company.
By 2007, Ben Heath expanded into the business of creating luxury kitchens, something which we are still known for today. The very first kitchen was the Chichester from Neptune.
One of the major challenges at that time was lack of UK and European furniture suppliers as the proliferation of cheap Chinese imports forced many to shut up shop.
In 2012, Ben saw an opportunity to combine his experience and skills in interior design and wood craftsmanship to design and create his own bespoke kitchens and furniture. This led to Ben opening the first workshop in a small barn in Hungerford, Berkshire. Ben Heath grew and flourished to become a renowned interior design company. Our inspiring showroom in Hambridge Road Newbury gave our customers the opportunity to get a real feel of the quality of the contemporary and classic kitchens, furniture, and accessories and, how our interior design ideas could look in their own homes. Coming to our interior design showroom gave our customers the chance to discuss their needs and ideas for their home, ask questions, and find out exactly Ben Heath could help deliver their dream kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, bedroom, study or working space.
When demand for our bespoke kitchens and furniture began to really explode, we moved and expanded our workshop in 2017 to a new unit, only 400 yards from our showroom. This has given us the capacity and opportunity to take our skills in interior design and craftsmanship to the next level so that we can delight our customers with designs and products that will last a lifetime.
Over the years our demand for our own kitchens and furniture grew. We decided our showroom came to big and not focused enough on what we have to offer from our workshop.
At the end of 2023 we got the opportunity to take over The Hungerford Bookcase Co. in New Town Hungerford. The set up was perfect for the direction we wanted to head to. In May of 2024 we moved out of Newbury to Hungerford.
Today we have a team of 10 people, 7 highly skilled cabinet and wood workers in our workshop, each of whom have different but complementary skill sets, enabling us to make our unique and beautiful luxury kitchens and furniture.
Our design team of 2 people ensures that all visitors receive the attention and level of customer service they would expect from a leading interior design company. We know the importance of both listening closely to what our customers want and assisting them to making the right choices on design, whether it be for a brand new kitchen, re-design of the living room, or a beautiful new bespoke piece to finish off a favourite space.
